Youth Lecture 3 July 2009

On 3 July our brother, Ali, who is one of the co-founders of the Friday Night Gathering, delivered a small lecture on the importance of seeking knowledge.

He talked about the reward of reading Qur'an. In a Hadith it is narrated that every Ayah you read will earn you 10 rewards. In another Hadith it is said that it is an obligation upon all Muslims to seek knowledge. For this reason, at the end of 2009, we shall be going to Gontor, which is a modern Islamic boarding school in Western Java, Indonesia, for 3 weeks. Br Ali is a student at that school.

Here is a brief description of Gontor:

  • It is a modern Islamic Boarding School
  • Sisters are separated from the brothers
  • It has around 4500 students and counting
  • School is 7 days a week
  • There are around 100 foreign students
  • It is a military style school
  • Punishment for males are more harsher than for females
  • They teach Islamic subjects as well as other worldly subjects
The talk was concluded with some basic questions about Islam that all Muslims should know.

Here are some photos from the night:
