Youth Lecture 24 July 2009

On our previous gathering, it was business as usual. We first started with reciting the Qur'an and understanding the meaning of some ayaat. We then followed it up with a talk about Aqidah and Fiqh.

Aqidah is the science that proves beyond doubt the validity of our belief system. How is it proven? Through valid arguement from the Quran, Sunnah, the opinion of the scholars and the mind. Aqidah is the foundation of Islam. Therefore, if your Aqidah is strong, your Islam will be strong too.

Iman is covered in Aqidah. Iman is based on the Shahadah. The Shahadah is not just an utterance. It has a really strong meaning. When one recites the shahadah, it must from the heart. One must really believe that there is no one worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad(SAWS)is his Messenger, for what you say is what you do. Every thing you do stems from your Aqidah.

Fiqh is Islamic Jurisprudence. In other words it is the Islamic divine practical law. It is how you practice Islam. There are four Sunni madhhabs: Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i and Hanbali. One may follow any of these Madh-habs as long as they are in the corridor of Islam, which they all are.

Fiqh covers many fields, from economics to the rules of war; from martial life to dietary laws.

Unlike Aqidah, Fiqh can have different madh-habs, which are mentioned above. There can only be one belief. There can be no difference of opinion when it comes to Iman & Aqidah.
